Birds of a Feather Flock Together -- Especially Vultures!

Where the carcass lies, there
the vultures gather. (Matt 24:28)
There's a spot here in Woodstock near the local park where several large trees with spreading branches seem to attract legions of turkey vultures. They roost in the trees in a creepy Halloween-like setting. I always shiver a bit when we pass by and see them roosting there.

On the other hand, the vultures have an important role to play in cleaning up the dead things: the road kill, the sick and injured animals that die in the woods...they are, in a way, nature's morticians.

Sadly, however, we have our own vultures in the Church who feed, not on the dead, but on the living. Instead of cleaning up after dead things, their chosen role appears to be taking living faith, poisoning it and feeding on the dying souls of the scandalized.

That's what I thought of when I read that Cardinal Cupich invited Fr. James Martin to give Lenten reflections in the Diocese of Chicago. Fr. Martin's book on Building a Bridge may be nuanced enough not to be heretical (I haven't read the book and won't buy it), but many of his public statements are heretical as I've pointed out before. You can't promote same sex marriage looking forward to the day that gays can kiss during Mass (as Fr. Martin says he does) and pretend to be upholding Church teaching. Some bishops who do not agree with Fr. Martin's statements say they admire the good that he has done. That makes me scratch my head. Doesn't scripture tell us the devil can appear as an angel of light? Doesn't St. Thomas Aquinas warn us that people never choose evil directly but choose the good they see (like a woman who justifies her abortion by saying she is saving her Down Syndrome baby from a life of suffering)?

Dissident group New Ways Ministry loves
Fr. James Martin and his ear-tickling scandal!
You cannot drink a cup of "pure" water with just "a little" poison. And so, I suggest readers take note of who, among bishops and other clerics, are praising and enabling Fr. James Martin in his poisonous promotion of the homosexual agenda. Recognize that they are all "birds of a feather" in the vulture family and don't trust them. Among these are Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago; Cardinal Joseph Tobin of Newark;  Bishop Robert McElroy of San Diego; Cardinal Kevin Farrell of the Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life at the Vatican; Fr. Thomas Rosica, the notorious Vatican spokesman who threatened to sue a Canadian Catholic blogger, etc. They are endangering souls!

Everywhere Fr. Martin is invited to speak, orthodox Catholics should gather, rosaries and flyers in hand, to pray and expose the scandal. A handout with Fr. Martin's notorious pronouncements could be the inoculation that saves souls from his plague of lies. Let faithful Catholics have masses said for Fr. Martin and his enablers especially those entrusted with teaching the flock. Scandal is a serious sin. It not only kills the soul of the scandalizer, but endangers the souls of those exposed to the scandal.

Our Lady, Queen of the Clergy, pray for all priests especially those in danger of hell fire for scandalizing the flock.

  1. Most if not all of these archbishops and bishops were appointed to their lofty positions by Pope Francis. He's the human wrecking ball1

  2. You don't have to buy the book. Just read it in the bookstore and copy down - or take pictures of - passages you need for reference.

  3. don't forget that +Chaput also lauded Martin and his book.

  4. Actually, Archbishop Chaput was one of the first to criticize the book.

His later comments were more about the ugliness of some of the comments about Fr. Martin than about defending and lauding the book. I disagree with his "admiration" for some of Fr. Martin's work since someone who makes a batch of brownies and only drips poison on half a dozen is still a poisoner, but AB Chaput does not deserve to be in the same category with the other bishops who really are vultures.

  5. Ann Barnhardt is having a Novena of Masses said for Martin's conversion.

  6. I am in the process of reading Chaput's latest book, "Strangers in a Strange Land, Living the Catholic Faith in a Post-Christian World" for a Catholic book group I belong to. In the first chapter, Chaput is careful to say good things about the pope and praise him for certain things he has said. When I mentioned this to a friend with some reservation about how Chaput really stands on things, my friend said he thought he was "bucking for a red hat," but that it was generally a good book.

Sadly, this is probably the case. What can the future of the Church possibly be if all the good bishops slam this pope who holds the power of appointing cardinals on every issue all of the time. However, I agree with Mary Ann completely that you can't embrace poison even some of the time.

Let us not forget Cardinal Donald Wuerl. Despite much protests, Wuerl has allowed Martin to speak in several places in the ADW. To be fair, he did not endorse his book, but letting him spew his perversion of Church teaching is enabling. Then there is Cardinal Dolan, and Father Jonathan Morris. Ralph Martin and Renewal Ministries have done a good job standing up for orthodoxy, but I really hope they do not disappoint on the Martin matter, whether Father Morris is Ralph Martin's nephew or not. Thus far, Ralph Martin has not publicly spoken out about this. I don't know if that is a mere coincidence, or if RM purposely has not wanted to get involved because of Morris being his nephew. Regardless, we need to pray for an outpouring of fortitude and courage in the Church! Thank God for Austin Ruse and Raymond Arroyo. God Bless them!

I forgot to add that the response from the Theological College on the dis-invitation of Father James Martin was disgraceful, not to mention CUA President John Garvey's response. It would be one thing for Martin to debate, say, Michael Voris, at CUA. However, Martin was not going to debate, but speak. In other words, be given a platform to encourage dissent. Garvey claims that CUA follows "Ex Corde," but apparently, he has not even interpreted it correctly!
